Is anyone out there running a TJM rear bumper on the Disco I? I'm tempted, but concerned about weight and departure angle.

I have the TJM rear bumper on my Disco I and I absolutely love it! The departure angle doesn't seem any worse than stock, but stock sucked too! I was more concerned with keeping the stock look, which I like, and not having to hack up my truck. IMO, if it's a dedicated trail truck then take a sawzall to the rear and hack away. Don't forget the strongest rear recovery point on the Rear, the reciever hitch, that's gonna have to go too. Then take a piece of steel stock and weld it on there. It just doesn't seem worth the extra couple of degrees but, to each his own. This is also why I think people spend way to much time trying to come up with ways to improve the approach angle. Granted the ARB appears to be worse than it needs to be in this department but with the departure angle sooo bad what good is having a killer approach angle??? Especially with the gas tank where it is! But, I digress. I love my TJM sooo much I'm concidering their front winch bumper. And as far as weight, it's much heavier than stock but not overly heavy. And it's designed much stronger than stock. Good Luck with your decision.

Hi we've been running tjm front and rear for 5 years now and haven't had a single problem with either. On the rear, you can improve the departure angle a bit by fitting the bumper a bit closer to the vehicle. You need to trim the diamond plate a tad.

If you have a strong rear bumper and finesse, you can drag the rear bumper with less fear of breakage. The stock bumper falls apart with little rubbing. The TJM should be strong enough to take some scraping and keep it's shape. However, be careful if you get stuck going up and are backing down. You don't want to come down onto the lights.

If you want a stock look, do the TJM, if you don't mind hacking and really want to improve departure angle there are other options out there that make more sense. You can also avoid the light issue by just tossing the lights and welding in some black steel into the holes. Wonder if that would look cheezy, though.

Thanks for the input gang. So far I'm living with the stock departure (4 inches lifted). The custom bumpers are just sooo sexy.
