I've fitted a Sony LX400 single CD player / FM / AM radio into my 93 D1 - it needed a harness adaptor available in the UK for about 10GBP. It was a very tight fit in the slot though!!

i installed a blapunkt cd player in my 95 disco. the stock lr radio wire harness fit the cd player,i had to re-arrange the wires within the plug, but it worked well.the blapunkt was a high power unit,so i had to purchase an electronic adaptor for the speaker leads to keep form damaging the lr amp system.also the rear mount/support fit perfect.

I got a Pioneer 6 disc changer, I'm not sure which model, but I can check. When I bought my 99 D1 it didn't have one, and the I made the costly mistake of buying a LR CD changer off E-Bay. It didn't work. So I bought a regular Pioneer 6 disker. It still fits under the passenger seat and the wired remote sits on the center console between the gear shift and arm rest. The radio controls are not compatable but the remote in a handy place makes up for that.

Sony MP3 with wireless remote!!! Speakers have to be rewired with this system. Dash controls not compatible. Wiring harness from a VW reqd (shop will have it). No other way to go for me.

Joe is right. no other way to go but with an mp3 capable head unit. chunk the disc changer off the nearest cliff. throw an alpine with it while you're at it. they sound awesome, but they suck electronically. so does their customer service. i've made the mistake of buying three over the years because of their great sound and that alpine "mystique". my jvc's have never given me any problems. you can't go wrong with sony either.

yeah Robert that cd player is nice if you just want the lcd screen that makes the cd player "look" like its better, although it has more eye candy , such as pretty little dolphins and flying between buildings, /////Alpine has more high end internal components that make it a much better sounding cd player. No cd player can compete with alpine when the best sound is desired.

I've always gotten alpine for my vehicles
i've had 3 vehicles and i bought a new alpine for each.
Get it off ebay thats where i got all mine.

Every brand name has its downfalls and everyone prefers what they prefer. Really anything you can get your hands on now will be awesome because of how much technology is put in them now. Well at least the higher end ones.

But as for me I'll leave the Pioneer, JVC, and anything but an Alpine for the J**Ps.

hahahaha. i agree with the fact that nothing sounds better than an alpine. if only they weren't so sensitive and temperamental. what really soured me on them was when i had to deal with their customer service (which may or may not be any worse than anyone else's). after sending my unit back and forth for SIX MONTHS, they scratched the face on my deck, and i still had to fix it myself! i found a loose connection after taking it apart, and resoldered it. my others (and my friends' others) would crap out from the texas heat until the temperature cooled a bit. i need something every bit as rugged as my disco here to stand up to my dear lease and the temperature. i still say that the main ingredient (if you have a computer) is to make sure it's mp3 ready. forget the cheesy dolphins. if my current stereo takes a dump on me, i'll probably try alpine again just because i love their sound. it's a love-hate relationship. kind of like owning a land-rover when it's time for the inevitable repairs. ;)

You could always go crazy and try MD instead of CD.

This is going in my baby on the weekend.
