I just finished installing OME MD Springs and OME Shocks. I also replaced the stock tires with 265/75/16 Goodyear MTR's. I spoke to a rep at RoversNorth prior to ordering the new suspension...he said my Disco would "ride like a tank" with he new suspension. I have noticed that the new ride is much firmer than before, moreover every time a hit a bump in the road I get alot more "cabin noise". Is all this normal with this type of set-up? Anything that can be done to maintain a more "Factory" type ride?

Yeah , leave it stock.... You put tires on the truck that werent designed to be on there and to fit them you had to make it higher. You shouldnt go higher without going stiffer so here ya are...:)

lower the tire pressure. you will get worst tire wear and MPG, but atleast you can be comfortable.

The springs should loosen up after a few thousand miles. Other than that go back to stock springs with 2" spacers.

yeah, 2" spacers w/ stock springs so you have an even higher center of gravity swinging around on those limp things.........

Suggestions would have been better than a flaming.

But they wouldn't have been near as much fun.

I'm in Western Massachusetts and it has been very cold as of late.

The stiffer ride is mostly do to the extremely thick sidewalls of the Goodyear MTRs (I have them on my ride too). Add to the mix the cold weather and you are probably feeling every bump in the road.

My only suggestion would be to put the big meats on steel rims and buy yourself some different tires for your everyday drivers. Maybe some BFG ATs or something similar.

Thanks,
Mike B.

The MT/Rs will be just fine for daily driving. They should also allow you to run lower pressure than stock tires, so look into that. The springs will soften up with more use (flexing them off-road will soften them up sooner than just driving in town). Plus if you have it as cold as it gets up here during winter, then things are just stiff until they warm up a bit. Especially first thing in the morning.

It is normal. To maintain a factory ride, use factory gear.

IMHO there really is no reason to go MD, just go straight to the HDs.

The stiffer springs are also made to carry extra weight like a winch and winch bumper, rock sliders and offroad recovery gear, camping gear and all that jazz. You will find the ride a lot smoother once you add some weight to your disco. Empty it will feel like a pogo stick.

Similar experiance in my 96D1 with OME HDs. Not to worry. Like Michel wrote, put some weight on those springs and they won't bang so hard. If you're in Mass, how about 300Lbs of sand for the winter ?

Just want to thank the board for all the insight you have provided me...sounds like what I'm experiencing is normal with this type of set up...It seems that with time and some additional weight the ride will improve...thanks again for all the info.

John
