Need help to determine whats the best way to fix it or buy a new chassis. My 95 Disco radius arm bracket (driver side) got pushed 2 to 3 inch back after hitting a rock going 20 to 30 mph (off-road). Aluminum rims totally wrecked but 265 tire survived. Anyways, to cut the story short, i checked the (d/s radius arm) bracket and it cracked a 1 1/2 inch hole between the weld and the thin Disco chassis. My quick fix (plan) is to to find a good welder, take the warped bracket off from the frame, hammer it back to the original shape and re-weld. But before doing that, the cut has to be covered and strengthened, how? don't know. Any recommendations is highly needed. The 1 1/2 inch cut on the frame bothers me. Overall the Disco frame is straight. Help guys.

That does not sound that bad. I know that you can get the bracket new.

If it were me I would check to make sure the chassis is still square (do the doors shut ok, measure corner to corner etc.)

I would have to see the damage but most likely you could just cut out the effected section, weld in a new piece of steel and then weld the bracket on. This would be seamless so it could not be detected. Personally I would hammer it and then weld a plate over and weld the bracket to that.

I have never welded on a disco chassis but it is really common to patch a series chassis and I have my work cut out (litterally) for me on my 51.

Thanks for the response. Got the bracket back, reseated the old one and took us half a day to finish. Wheel is still off an inch but i decided to add a spacer to compensate the missing inch. Looks like a healed fracture without a cast...uh...by the way, curiosity has me here....30 MPH off road? Slide off a fireroad? Not a fireroad, soft desert sand. Watch out for sharp turns, i realize my Disco aint a dune buggy.
Anyone got their swivel pin housing leakin? My d/s front wheel got twitched and off-centered, gear oil leaking off the seal. Any quick fix? Thanx.

Two things.

1. How is the wheel off an inch! You need to fix that :)

2. As far as the leak, either pack it with grease (temp solution) or replace the seal. You can cut it then reglue it at the top.
