Im gonna purchase a DII or a 97+ 4.0 Range Rover, any input.
Which is better off-road? Is easier to service?

They are about equal off road, but think of this-The Range Rover can be VERY expensive to own,air suspension,a/c system, brake system, control units, all expensive parts that go out alot, the disco 2 will be cheaper in this respect and the disco will have much better power than the 4.0 Range Rover.........Brian.

"...disco will have much better power than the 4.0 Range Rover"

Huh? Don't they have the same engine? Just an extra 6hp on the DII.

I think the Rangie also has a VC over the DII with the CDL that you have to install the linkage for if your DII is a 1999-early 2001. I would get a 1999-2000 DII if it was me for off road use. That is if my only choice was the DII or Rangie 4.0.

...or an early 2001 Discovery. We found the exact vehicle we wanted, a 2001 SD with CDL nut and low miles (9k) for an affordable price. Added slightly larger MTR's, and the Aussie motorized CDL actuator, and now away we go....

Aussie motorized CDL actuator? Never heard of this. Could you elaborate a little or provide a informative link?
