My driver seat back does not tilt backwards anymore only forward. Fuses and relays under the seat are OK. I suspect the switch, but want to check the circuits. Does anybody have the color codes and/or scan of the wiring diagram? That would help a lot. It's a 96 Disco. Thanks... |

Check the recline motor harness. Mine had this same problem, one of the wires was grounding out. |

my guess is that the switches themselves have carbon build up on them and just need a cleaning. DO NOT just crack open the case and think you will know how it goes together. LOTS of little bearings and metal contacts. this is a great link rob d. showed me. it is a must for taking apart the switch and about 90% sure it will solve your issue. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292126925 |

Thanks guys, keep the ideas coming. Garrett, I think it is the switch but the album could not be viewed. Do you have another link? Anybody have that schematic so I can hotwire the recline motor. Mike, was the harness shorting at the switch, at the connectors or at the motor? Thanks |

yeah looks like you have to sign in to a be member. do it. worth it for sure, as i am pretty confident this is your issue. check what mike is suggesting and then go my route if it is still not working. the photo album is for the Range Rover switches, but they are the same ones used in the D1's. good luck. |

Thanks guys!!! It was the contacts inside the switch. Not having the pictures or diagram and having Garrett's warning I decided to just crack it open anyway. I assumed spring loaded steel ball bearings and I was right. As soon as I started opening the case, I heard pops and poings and thought for sure that the switch would never be the same. But I figured I could always get a new one if need be. Well upon opening the switch I found 4 toggles, 4 pins, 8 metal plates with 2 contacts each, 8 springs and 16 little ball bearings. Cleaned the contacts, put it together (twice before I figured out I reversed 2 of the toggles) and viola. Reclining action. Thanks Discoweb and namely Garrett and Mike. |
