I'm getting ready to install a new rearview mirror in my 97 disco and wanted to know if anyone could pass on some helpful information on the un-installing/installing process.

Any assistance would be appreciated, or little tricky hints would be great also.

Thanks in advance.

Greg,

The whole mirror or just the lense?

It's not hard. The worst part is breaking loose the old mirror from its base. Believe me - I've replaced mine twice already. The stock mirrors are junk.

It's the whole mirror. I've got a new one and messed with it a little last night, but didn't put too much force on it and risk breaking the windshield.

Should I be worried about that? OR do I just need to jerk the hell out of it and pull it off?

Don't jerk it. Slide it upward. It takes some force, but you shouldn't have to worry about breaking the windscreen.

So not to sound redundant, but I slide it up the windshield and not down?

Up is the way to go. You'll see why when you get it off.

Spray some One Lube or WD-40 on the slide. It worked for me.

I'll try it tonight, and let you know.

Thanks!

Alright, I hate to beat a dead horse, but I had no luck at getting that stupid mirror off. I pushed it up, wiggled it, sprayed some W-D40 on it. And it's still there.

Anything else to try, or just give it another shot until it breaks loose.

Thanks!

If it's anything like the one I took off, make sure you's loosening the star-headed bolt that keeps tension between the mirror and the mirror button. If you haven't loosened this, no wonder it won't come off. Hope this helps.

Hey Tate!

Where would I find this bolt? I have looked and didn't see anything that looked like a bolt I needed to loosen.

Please advise, Thanks!

And where is this "mirror button?"
