Before my turkey dinner last Thursday I spent the morning removing my steering wheel, removing a now semi-melted light switch assembly (I have been hearing other stories about them causing shorts etc) and replacing the assembly with one snagged from a 95 RR. Upon refitting the airbag I noticed that the dumbasses at LR decided to make the plug bi directional so I didn't know which way to plug it in. One direction caused the airbag light to remain on for over 2 minutes and the other direction caused the airbag light to blink. Is there a reset procedure? Should I have waited longer for the computer to reset itself? |

Shop manual doesn't shed any light on this. Are you sure they are not "directional"? If not maybe it doesn't matter. My SRS light is going off and manual says the fault code can only be read by "Testbook" (part of OBDI I guess). Have you got a dealer nearby? I sure don't. Good Luck. |

Joe, the switch definitely fits in either direction. It's shaped sort of like an hourglass and I'm sure the positive should be on the right contact for the diagnostic to work properly. I guess I could check the LED readout but I don't know where to find the codes for OBD I- just OBDII. Dealer will eat me alive- that's a last resort! |

Jason: You're gonna need to go to the dealer to have your SRS system reset. Sorry. On the bright side, after a while, you don't notice it anymore when the light is on. Eventually, the bulb will burn out. Paul |

Paul, Spoken like a guy who's been without airbags for a while! Any chance some auto body shop could reset? LR dealer is 100 miles for me. |
