Hi,

I finally finished my "concept" of a bullet-proof DII CDL. I made some extras for those who would like them. I also made some extra brackets that fit over the stud if you want to make the handle yourselves.

Pictures of the installed handle and dimensions for those who wish to make them are available on my web page.

If you want a "pretty" one from my friends fab shop, you can e-mail me and I'll send one to you.

The pictures and stuff are at:

http://www.chrisurquieta.com/dii_cdl_handle.htm

My e-mail:

[email protected]

This set-up has been used successfully on three DII's so far. Hope some of you can use it. It completely changes the off-road personality of the DII.

Anyone know if Land Rover is planning on bringing CDL back to the U.S.? It's my understanding that North America is the only place in he world not getting CDL right now.

RJ,

The handle does not work from inside (part of its simplicity). You have to engage it from outside by pulling the handle to engage or pushing to disengage.

PM,

I'll e-mail you later today. I have to go to the airport right now.

Chris,

What keeps the linkage from moving or possibly engaging the cdl due to vibration and bumps?

Greg,

This info comes from a Land Rover Master Technician, if anybody questions his info, please speak up so I can dig deeper about it:

There is a solenoid that keeps the CDL mechanism from engaging or disengaging if the vehicle is running and it is not in P or N.

This was one of my questions when I was making the handle. I actually left enough room on the handle arm to put a lock pin in because that was my original intent. After my discussion with the Master Tech, I left the pin off to save on the cost.

In any case, as a back up, the DII (all the ones I've seen so far)has a dash light that illuminates when the CDL is engaged.

i HAVE A 2002 manufactured one in Australia. I dont think I have that lug - I will have to crawl under - does anyone know the answer?

My understanding of the CDL is that there is a detent bolt that holds the CDL open or locked (otherwise it could lock accidently). The instructions for fitting the Australian solenoid CDL (whose name or link I forget) states that this detent bolt has to be removed before fitting the solenoid.

Scott,

Hard to say (I'm going to guess not but you may be lucky), you will have to stick your hand up there and check if the stud is there.

Scott, I'm about 98% sure you don't have it but since I don't live in the land of OZ I can't be 100% sure.

Chris, for what it's worth, I can engage my CDL at speed, in Park, Reverse, doesn't matter. So I don't think that there is a solenoid in there. Maybe in the DI's or D-90's?

Greg,

Thanks for the info. Mine won't engage. I'll check on some other DII's.

Have you had leaks with yours at all?

Chris,
I think the solenoid you are talking about stop you from shifting between high and low. My solenoid went bad and I was stuck in low.

Well Chris,

After reading your email and checking out your website, I think I'll make one on my own. Thank you for sharing your idea with this forum, it is greatly appreciated.
