I'm looking into some new tires for my Discovery 1. The guys at the tire shop said that 245/75-16 will fit, but I didn't think they would. I am now looking into 225/75-16 or replacement stock size tires. Will my Disco look "under-tired" with a tire that is only 8.8 inches wide? Will the skinniness of the tire cause any handling issues? A pictire of a Disco with these pizza cutters will be helpful. Thanks.

p.s. I have AR steel wheels with 4.25" back-spacing

I have 245/75R16s on my stock Disco, no lift at all. They do fit. But, you will encounter rubbing on significant articulation. A little trimming, or re-arranging the bracket to push the rear wheelwell out a little, is all that is needed. Both are discussed in the Tech-section.

I have been running 225/75 when my disco was stock and now with the lift.. I didn't notice any handling differences but, they do look a little skiny.. With the lift they look down right small..

I'll make you a SWEET deal on some 225/75 BFG mud-terrains. About 75% tread left. I ran them when my truck was stock, but they are collecting dust in my basement, now.

About running 245/75's:
If I didn't have the American Racing steel wheels it would be a no brainer going with 245/75's or 235/85's, but with the AR wheels sticking out about 1/2 an inch more than stock, I don't think that 245/75's will work without butchering my rig.

E Snyder,
Thanks for the offer, but a friend of mine, that works in a tire shop, is giving me a discount on any tire I pick!

Does anybody have a pic of his/her Disco with 225/75's on a stock suspended Disco?

Whats wrong with 235/70 size?
Why not go with 245/70 if you like the meatier look?

I run 225x75x16 BFG AT's on my '93 (Aussie 3.5lt) disco and find them great. If you think they are small you should see them with the 205x 16 which is the standard on this model. The 225 is obviously 20mm wider but is slightly taller. Mine are fitted on 16 x 7" 5 spoke ROH alloys.

Chris,

235/70 isn't available in a lot of different tires... R/Ts, etc., aren't to be had that small.

Even my wife thinks that the 245/75 looks better because it fills in the wheelwell so much better.... and she does NOT like a tricked out Disco-look, she wants me to keep it looking stock...

FWIW....
