Has anyone out there installed one of these. I'll be picking up a used on later this week and would like to install it on Saturday.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'll also be pickup up the southdown steering guard as well, but my main priority this weekend is to get the axel/diff guard installed first.

Thanks,

Zak

Zak:
The only difficulty you will have is dropping the panhard rod so the guard will clear. You may have to use some percussive persuasion to get the guard onto the diff.

The hardware holding the panhard rod on is of the nyloc variety. Conventional wisdom is to replace these every time they are used, however, I usually try to reuse them once and then replace.

Depending on the size, Lowes and Home Depot carry some, Napa, LR Dealer, and many online places.

Zak/Paul,
If you are indeed installing a Southdown axle guard you will not need to remove the panhard rod. Commonly referred to as "The Shovel" the guard itself bolts to two brackets that are mounted using the same bolts that hold the radius arms to the axle. Only undo one radius arm bolt at a time however as there is some potential for shifting, which could be a bitch to realign. Do yourself a favor and make sure you have two 15/16" wrenches and a six point socket of the same size. Those are some big ass bolts. Also if you remove the sway bar it will give you more access to the whole area.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I've even received a bunch of emails regarding the install. I'll be attempting it this Saturday and praying I don't break anything because we're heading out for some wheeling on Sunday. East Coast stuff, so nothing major, but would like to hve a little protection up front.

Thanks again,

Zak

Baron Von,
I was referring to the Differential guard only as I thought that was what was being described here. From rereading the initial post, it sounds as though he is getting both the "Skid Plate" and the "Diff Guard".

Nyloc nuts in metric sizes may be difficult to find, but some NAPA stores stock them.

Peace,
Paul

I'll probably just be putting the axel/diff guard on this weekend, and then the steering/snow plow next week, not sure if i'll have enough time to get it done. Thanks for the info though. I'll have ot check around for the nylocks.

Rans, we all know the east coast is just a bunch of dirt, dusty roads that we attack with our MAV's!!!!! Can't wait though.

I'll be testing it in the snow tonight as we drive to VT for a couple of days playing in the nice white fluffy stuff.

The Ax/diff guard is actually the plow.
Zak you wont need any bolts or nuts 1/2 of them are brand new replacements.
