I have a 99 D2 going off warranty in two months and I'm trying to decide whether to purchase extended or not. My biggest concern on the rig is the f/r prop shaft, specifically the DC on the front t-case side. I'm thinking if the cost is right, I can protect the transmission and t-case from u-joint blow-out by replacing both f/r with HD versions with zerks on the u joints, thus *not* going with the extended warranty, putting the money aside for other things. I'm fairly comfortable fixing about everything else on the rig (except the AT and all the stupid computers). What are you other D2 guys doing on this issue? |

Why not just drop the premium in a separate bank account for such an instance and dole out the money when you need it? Premiums run between $550 and $800 a year for extended warranties. I have a '95 and owned it for three years now. I've not spent even $1500 at the dealer during this period - but then again I have not had to replace a motor or transfer case either, in which case I'd be ***ked! No waiting for approval and no haggling over price or where it can be serviced - oh, and the money is still yours if you never use it. .02 e |

IMHO, insurance, extended warranties, etc. are for people who can't afford the consequences of not having them. I can't afford the consequenses of mowing over 5 people and having to pay millions of dollars in liability so I carry it. That and I'm required by law to have it. I guess the question is, can you afford to fix your Disco if something goes horribly wrong? |

i manage a transmission shop for a living.i see many different extended warranties people have purchased.if the warranty is through the auto manufacturer it usually is ok,but the vehicle needs to go to the dealer for covered repairs.some dealers sell "after-market" extended warranties, sometimes valid only at the selling dealers place of buisness.the only thing i can say is,know what is being purchased.whats covered, whats not,time/milage limits, deductibles, etc.i have seen alot of customers recieve repairs in excess of the premium paid.its like any insurance.hope i helped. |
