John, I just took one off that was installed with sheet metal screws. It worked fine for me, as the door itelf seems to take most of the stress of the ladder. Sold mine though. I think www.roverconnection.com sells hardware kits on their site. |

thanks Greg. Yes I saw it on roverconnection but think it was ridiculous that they want 20.00 plus 5-6 shipping and handling for basically 4 screws. if it worked for you, i guess i'll get some stainless screws and start the drilling. Thanks |

I picked up the AB ladder and it installs with stainless screws. Be very cautious and use the #2 drill as specified. It can be easy to over tighten and strip the thread. Other than that, it holds pretty well with just the screws. |

Yeah, what I did was actually drill a very small pilot hole, then use the self taping stainless screws with my cordless drill. I got the screws started and drove them in about half way, then stopped and finished the job with a hand screwdriver for tightness. What I found was that over time, the screws would vibrate loose, so I picked up some appropriate sized stainless lock washers and that did the trick. Put a small piece of foam or neoprene behind each screw point, and a strip of duct tape across the top of the door under the ladder, and it will protect the paint. |

I went the rivnut route and it worked great. They're a little tricky to wrap your mind around, but once you get it, they work so well that you feel mighty proud. Try any fastner supplier. Don't just look for hardware, find a place that only sells fasteners. They'll have rivnuts and all kinds of great stainless hardware. |
