I noticed one of the local Phillips 66 stations was selling something called B35 racing fuel (101 octane) for $2.99 per gallon. Just wondering what effect this would have, good or ill, if run in a Disco, either full strength or mixed with regular gas.

Thanks,

Norm

none at all as far as performance goes.

running purple juice is only a benifit when you have the compression and ignitions timing set for it. otherwise its just pissing money away.

there are a few cars that have true full spark advance/knock sensor sytems(80's 911turbos,bmw 745it) but for the most part car companys stopped doing that because when the system got confussed they would fry the motor. now spark advance is limited to a realistic range the vehicle will see.

Well, you could advance your timing past where you would normally experience detonation and see a little more performance-but realistically you would only see big benefits if increased compression-new pistons or shaved heads or both.

Just for the hell of it, I put a tank of 101 racing (sold on SoCal by Unocal) in my '88 Jetta 16v which came stock with 10:1 comp and a knock sensor and was surprised by the increase in performance and allowed me to play with timing. I'm gonna try it in my '01 Audi S4 next.

Be careful and remember to check with the grape juice provider...grape juice (at least in the not to distant past) contained lead. Good for your 60's vintage muscle car motors bad for cats.

Yep, that's why I can't use the 112-117 octane stuff and can only use the max 104 octane unleaded that cost $4.75+tax a gal or $385/barrel.
