I asked at my local autoparts store if there's a Haynes or Chilton manual for a '96 Discovery- there isn't. Anyone know of a decent repair manual?
Cheers,
Paul.

I have a Haynes manual that covers 1989 to 1998 (G to S Registration) Petrol and Diesel Discovery. ISBN 1 85960 708 X. I ordered it on the net but I'm sorry I don't remember who from. I saw one that looks just like it on the AB online catalog, but they say it's for 1994-1995. The picture looks exactly like mine, except mine says "1989 to 1998". I'll keep searching for the source..

OK. I got it from 4x4connection.com. I just checked and it's still offered. This manual is good for very general info and some good step-by-step instructions for many jobs. Sadly, most of the idiosyncrosies of the 96 are not covered, such as it's ignition system. As if the 4.0, OBD-II never existed? Could be that it WAS written for the 95 and earlier model years and then got re-issued as 1989 to 1998? Confusing but better than nothing. I also have a shop manual. The two together are pretty useful.

The 89-98 Haynes Manual is also available from Rovers North. One thing to remember about the Haynes Manual is that it does not cover NAS Spec 4.0 engines. From what I have looked at it it does cover pretty much everything else but in a basic way

Thanks guys- my Discovery is a US model- does anyone here in the US do a manual? It's an SD with stick shift and the 4.0 V8.
Cheers,
Paul.

I have a 96 Disco SD automatic. I purchased the work shop manual from Rovers North. It includes the 4.0 engine.

Good Luck

The best bet is a genuine Land Rover publication - these aren't cheap (around 50 GBP - $80??) but are comprehensive and IMHO far better value than the Haynes manual. They're available in the UK from LandRover Enthusiast magazine's online bookstore (http://www.landroverenthusiast.com) and I'm sure in the States as well.

Best of luck.
