Here's a good...Went wheelin' down in Paragon AP with some of the Philly boys. I got high centered coming out a stream. OK, no problem, winch it off no problem...as I'm sitting in the truck realizing how bad of a line I choose, the idle kicks up to about 2000rpm. I'm in neutral, so I shut the beast off, re-start the truck alls, fine, hit the gas, idle kicks up again. To make a long story short, I get off the berm, still fighting the probelm and head for home. As I'm getting gas, same thing. Get the truck home, check everything.Including the cruise control cable. I have no other probelms, until yesterday morning, girlfriend needs to use the truck to get to work. Get in,starts truck, calls me in a "PANIC"! says the dial to right is in the middle and she doesn't have her foot on the gas. She calls roadside, they pick-up the truck, dealer calls and says the Mass air flow sensor is bad and cruise cable is broke...Any clues on this... Frank |

Cruise cable is most probably the cable to the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). The VSS is the lil' beastie that will make the Rover do the VSS shudder as you drive down the highway, usually a 5 to 8 second dance of limited power and shuddering followed by about the same amount of clear driving. Normally, cleaning or replacing the VSS clears this problem. Mass Air flow sensor tells the computer how much air is getting to the engine. It sounds as though that may be the beastie that is causing the idle changes. Anyone else? I may be wrong on this. Bill M. |
