My discovery is leaking antifreeze, the only place I can see it is running down the back of the block. The mechanic where it broke down said he doesn't know where its coming from. I have noticed a stall here and there on the hiway and my cruise control has recently been only working part time, but I don't think the cruise is related. Any suggestions? 98 disco 50K

head gasket leak. pull the heads, send them out to a machine shop for a check, and reassemble with composite gaskets and new head bolts.

could also be valley pan gasket/intake gasket. my '96 was leaking down the back of the engine as well. new gaskets up top took care of it.

New head gaskets fixed my leak, too (99 DII). Dealer did this under warranty.

Also a common problem if this is a D2 is a leak near the plenum. Look near the MAF on the air intake just under it.

Yeah, I was just thinking that if the mechanic couldn't see where it was coming from then it was more likely to be a head gasket leak than something on the intake.

Of course, to pull the heads you have to pull the intake manifold, and should be able to tell if that was leaking when you pull it off.
