Some of the UK mags occasionally refer to several conversions being done in OZ and Europe... I'd like to expand your question if I may to include all conversations anyone knows about.
I'm just interested for future ideas.
Thanks

If you are going to go to the trouble and expence to put a new engine in and you want a diesel, why not put in a Tdi? I have one in a 95 D1 and love it. Talk to East Coast Rovers, they did mine and they are great.

Ouch...The Td5 is sweet, but I'll just put a hot 4.6 in my D2 at a fraction of that $20k.

They did a lot of other work when they did mine. I would contact them directly. They do great work though.

There's a group in Western Australia who do diesel conversions for most popular 4wd's. They don't specifically mention Discos but they do mention RR's. Here's a couple of links:

http://www.brunswickdiesels.com.au
http://www.pps.net.au/skips4x4/articles/v8_diesel/

I saw them at a 4wd show a month ago. Prices for a new 6.5L V8 are AUS$15000, or about US$8000. They also do reconditioned versions for considerably less. I would imagine it would be much cheaper to do this in the US rather than having to pay freight to get them over here.

I have a 300TDi in my 98 Disco. It's a wonderful engine considering its size. Gives me roughly 10L/100K (28MPG?) and it's no slouch at the traffic lights compared to other diesels I've driven. However, when I win Lotto, I may consider getting something like the 6.5L.
