Does the Disco heater film affect radar detector reception like the bronze colored windshields I see on some Fords and GMs? I like the idea of quick defrost and ice removal, but I don't want to have to go to a remote detector. And I guess the replacement cost would be much higher...

Here's what the Valentine1 site says. I was wondering where LR fits into this scenario.

Thanx.

John, it is not a film that heats the windscreen. They are tiny wires running through the glass and, although I don't know for sure, I would say it would effect it in a bad way.

Quick fix...slow down.

Yeah, I say lift it and put some mud tires on it. Unless you have much bigger balls than I do you will to scared to go fast enough to need that thing.

Hmm, I have a V1 from my previous cars but never felt the need to use it in the Disco. As Eric pointed out, the Disco's heated windshield is made up of many wire elements that run from top to bottom. They are really difficult to see unless you look at the windshield closely. Since this isn't a metallic film, I don't think the V1's reception will be affected. Theoretically, the tiny wires could cause a slight reduction in range, but I'm speculating here. Have you considered e-mailing the V1 folks and asking?

My 92RR has the heated front windshield, and a radar detector mounted to the headliner beside the drivers door. Radar detector seems to work fine. However my electronic compass goes haywire if I turn on the windshield heater.

I have a radar detector in my Defender (I know, you're thinking "what's the point") - funny thing is, the detector goes off if I sound the horn!

I've heard of them going off when a cell phone rings but never when you blow the horn. Thats crazy!!!

Believe it or not, my Olympus digital camera seems to set off the laser warning on my V1. Happened to me several times during a cross-country trip awhile back.

My (home) computer speakers always HUM/BUZZ just before my cell phone starts to ring, but the cell has never done anything for the radar detector

One of my friends actually had the right radar detector/cell phone combination to where the detector would go off when the phone rang. He got to were was pretty used to just reaching for the phone when the radar detector went off. Once the radar dector actually picked up a real radar signal but instead of hitting the brakes he just picked up the cell phone, no one was on the phone but he got pulled over a few seconds later.

Don't know about the radar detector but my GPS unit got very, very bad reception in my 93 LWB RR with the heated windscreen. GPS seems to do just fine in the Disco. Maybe just my particular combo but it could cause a problem.

i use a "toll tag" in my rides and the company that issues the tags would not let me use the one that goes inside the car, saying any land rover disco's windsheild screwed up the tag signal. so i have one mounted on the plate.

will that effect a radar detector? dunno...but it seems that the heated portion had no variance over just having whatever the regular windsheild has regarding the tag.

The GPS is a good point - I had a tremendous increase in signal quality when I went to a remote, roof mounted antenna.

You can always get a remote mount radar detector. I've got a Bel Vector 985. Great detector. Antenna unit mounts behind front grill (non metallic) and the indicator/control unit mounts anywhere inside the vehicle.
