Do any of you know a reputable machine shop in the Washington DC area that can turn down a pair of brake rotors? What should the turn around time be on this type of job, and what do you think it would cost? Also, what is the minimum rotor thickness? Are there any other jobs that should be performed while I have the hub torn down? Wheel bearings, seals, pads, etc?

Thanks,
Collin

You can't turn LR genuine rotors, go ahead and purchase new ones.

Alright. I thought I had heard turning was possible, but if they go out of spec then they are no use to me. What is the general consensus on slotted, vented, crossdrilled or genuine replacement rotors? And the best source would be Nathan I presume?

Thanks for the info fellas,
Collin

We use Brembo, Genuine, and the Atl. Brit HP rotors. The Brembo are true, round, consistent and inexpensive compared to the Genuine. I have seen no difference in performance of the Brembos compared to the OE. We have installed a number of the super rotors. Generally speaking, unless you drive like Stirling Moss, tow a lot, or run fully loaded down Mt. Washington, you probably won't notice the difference. One of the vehicles that has the super rotors on it is coming for service tomorrow-if it has any alarming wear characteristics, good or bad, I will pass it on. The super rotors are a little noisier while braking than the standard rotors. I suspect it because of the slots and the hardness of the pads supplied with the kit from AB.
Hope this helps.
