Just wanted to throw this out to all of you before I seriously get stuck somewhere - and since I'm currently in West Virginia... I've had an Optima Red Top battery for well over a year (maybe two) now. My D1 sat in my driveway from mid-July to this weekend and the battery drained completely twice (both times I recharged and ran the engine and then let it sit) before finally getting it out on the road. Drove out to Pittsburgh and all seemed well. However, this morning, the D1 had difficulty starting. The starter turned and churned but not enough to start the engine. Took a jump from a friend's Nissan Altima and started her up. What I'd like to know is: how long and under what conditions does the Optima Red go bad? Do I need to look towards replacing it or is this a one-time problem? Thanks |

it is possible that your truck has developed a parasitic battery drain.try removing the ground cable next time you let it sit for a while.if the batt keeps its charge, check for a drain. |

Jay, This is normal. A red top is not meant to be run all the way down. Doing this to a red top or any normal battery kills it. Yellow tops are the only ones set up to go to complete discharge. Ron |

red tops also dont sit well compared to a plate style lead acid battery. you can trickle the red tops back to life by just cooking them for a couple days with 2amp charger |

Thanks to all of you for the feedback. I will double my efforts and see if I can resuscitate the RedTop. |

Just thought I'd let you know, since we're on the subject of batteries, that when checking to see if one is good, you look in the little window to see the green blob- all fine and well, but that little green blob only means that the one cell with the window in it is good- the others could be bad. And were, and it sucked, and that's why I'm sharing this! Cheers! Paul. |

Jay, an aside, but where are you in WV? I grew up near Harman, which is east of Elkins. Just curious. Enoch Snyder |
