Hello...Some of you suggested that I change the temp sender sensor to fix the starting trouble I have for a while now on a 95 disco.....Changed fuel filter, cleaned contacts on rotor cap, changed to eyelet terminals on the coil, some hoses in the vacuum line....

I changed the temp sender unit and I still have trouble. How do I check if the the ECU is getting the right temp ? Is the temp guage on the dash getting the reading from the same temp sender unit ??

Does O2 sensor come in play for cold starts ??
Does Stepper motor unit have to do with starting ?
Thx..

I am almost sure that the temp sensor is not the same that goes to the temp gauge.
Does it start with the temp sensor unplugged?

Mr Prasad

The sensor for the temp gage is located just below the thermostat housing.

Generally speaking the O2 sensor does not come into play until the engine has reached operating temperature. Until op temp is reached the ECU operates in the open loop mode.

You can check the voltage being transmitted to the ECU...at the ECU. It would be best to use the electrical trouble shooting manual for this because there are set up procedures before you read the meter.

I think that the stepper motor is wide open when the engine is started, then it closes down to the correct idling rpm. Are you having any trouble whatsoever with the stepper motor being able to control the idle when the engine is hot?? Wouldn't hurt to clean it.

Well...I changed the connectors at the temp sender unit and coolant sensor units also and still seem to have this dreaded starting problem...I tried measuring the voltage for temp sender unit (5 v when hot and 6.5 v when cold) and coolant sensor resistance varies with temp....If the coolant sensor reading is not coming to the ECU I guess it would show code 14....

It takes 3 tries to get it started.....Does anyone know what order the distributor head is connected to the cylinder ? (firing order ?)for a 95 3.9 disco...I am guessing it wouldnt start if connected incorrectly....
Thanks a lot ....
