Ok I made a rookie mistake. I changed all 4 sets of brake pads and compressed the calipers. So now I know you are not supposed to put back pressure on the break system. Result, my ABS is not working at all, the pedal goes nearly to the floor. Also, the break light is coming on and going off. Can anyone tell me how to get the ABS straightened out and working again. Please!!!!!! |

abs isn't working, is not the reason the pedal goes to the floor. sounds to me like you let air into the sytem and now it needs bleed. also make sure they your level is correct in the master cylindar. if you've topped off the fluid when all the brakes pads were worn then replaced them all you might have too much fluid in there. do you know how to bleed brakes? as for the ABS your sensors may be unseated, push them back in. i haven't ever dealt with reseating the ABS so i dont know the proceedure to take it out clean it and put it back in. personaly i loathe the ABS system on disco's and all the other ones i've encountered. takes longer to stop, but i can steer myself right into the car in front of me , yay. rd |

I bleed the brakes and I can stop now, but it feels like I don't have power brakes or ABS. I have to get on the pedal pretty hard and when I do the brakes will lock up. Any advice would be appreciated. |

"personaly i loathe the ABS system on disco's and all the other ones i've encountered." I don't care for it much either but I can live with it. FWIW, the ABS in modern BMW's and MB's is MUCH better. You can have one wheel slip and trigger the ABS on that one wheel without sending the other three wheels into the ABS from hell mode. |
