03 Discovery SE, 4000 miles, cold climate pkg, no ACE, retired service loaner - $34,995. Thoughts comments, suggestions? - will be my first rover if I pull the trigger

I thought most dealers were only using SDs for loaners? If it's an SE, sounds like a good deal if you still get the full 48 month, 50k mile warranty on top of the existing miles.

thats a good deal as long as its not one of the sunroof-delete SEs. Alot of them made their way into service loaner duty. Even if it is one of the SEs with no roofs, its still not a bad price. You just wont have the roofs, the CD, or rub strips on the side.

Got it - full SE, all opts excluding ACE, SLS and Harmon-Kardon. Thanks for all the advice - the Dlr recommended using real oil until about 12-15k and then switching to synthetics....does this sound like good advice?

Congratulations! After two months with my '03, I am completely in love with it.

Yeah, my dealer recommended switching to synthetic at the first oil change. I've got just under 3,000 miles now. I am debating whether to change the oil (using dino) to flush out any particles from break-in. The only question is whether LR uses a special break-in engine oil.

Good question - they recommended an early change at say 4000 miles. Mine actually had just 2600 miles rather than the 4k I initially thought, so I've got a little ways to go before that first change and I'll probably hold out until 10-12K before putting in synthetic. That is of course unless one of the resident Dweb experts thinks there is a better way to approach this.

Interesting my dad got a new truck a few months ago. not a rover tho. We changed it at like 1200 then again at 2500, then at 2500 intervals. you would be su[rised at the amount of metal that wears during the break in of a new motor. You cant change your oil too much I say at least every 2500 or 3000 but I am by 0 means a mechanic. Why do yall think there is such a emphasis on synthtics as opposed to real in term of oil? I say its like tits, synthetic are nice but real ones are better

Real Vs. Synthetic - in both Oil and T**ts, depends on the criteria your using to jufdge which is better. My philosophy has always been real oil and 87 octane, but with this vehicle it seems I need to pay a bit more attention to some of those maintenance areas that I used to neglect/take for granted. Are they engineered for synthetic or the real stuff - anybody know, or is there even a difference?

Don't know about 03, but I'm sure that the Disco 1 is not engineered for synthetic. I bought my 96 Disco used at 60k (conveniently just past warranty!). I wasn't sure of the maintenance history so real oil it is. I've heard from mechnics that going from real to synthetic is a bad move but a new car with less than 5000k is OK. Synthetics tend to not break down as fast as real so it might be a good move.
