I have a 96 D1 and need to replace the manual antena. I was thinking of an aftermaket, black flexable one so I do not have to worry about lowering it prior to offroading. What is the best kind? I assume it is a pretty easy to do, any tricks? |

There's older posts on this topic you should check out. I replaced on my 96 but went with the original type. My one mistake was that I failed to properly re-install the cover on the ECU, which later flopped open, exposing the ECU connector to water during a severe thunderstorm. Couldn't start the rover for many hours while it dried out. I later applied RTV (silicone adhesive) to the cover and it's been fine since. |

An easier install method is through the plastic wheelwell on the firewall side of the arch. Pop the plastic tabs and you'll have much better access to the area. Good luck with your Rover project. e |

'95 D1 here. I agree with Erik. I recommend that you take out a couple of the nylon screw rivets on the plastic wheel well cover and find a suitable replacement at a local auto store. It is likely that some do not come out gracefully. The nylon screw rivots that I used were .310" but a bit larger would work better. They are all around inside the well. One under the front and one under the back that are directly attched to the body. Remove the wheel makes it more easy. Once the plastic insert for the wheel well is out, you can see the antenna. Once done there, take out the glove box, wiggle the antena wire through the firebox and you will see the plug to detach from the tuner. I took some of the rivots and the antenna to the auto parts store and bought suitable replacement antenna for 9.99 and the misc rivots for a couple bucks. I left the Disco up on the stand so that I did not have to put the wheel back on. Brian |

I've replaced the antenna on my 96 D1 twice - once in the car wash (wife), once on the trail(me). I just use the $24 version from Atlantic British. Yes, I do recommend at least a partial removal (so you don't trash all the rivets) of the wheel well cover for best access. |

I have replaced mine three times on my 95, the last two times I loosened the fender (wing) bolts along the side of the engine compartment, and the screws inside the passenger door. This allowed rthe wing to be moved enought to easily replace the antenna. Took less than an hour. Still havent found an antenna thats worth a damn though. Rick |
