Anyone ever pack and ship an Adventure Roof Rack or receive one? How was it packed and who shipped it? I wondering because everytime I find a good deal the person wants it picked up. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Tommy |

I did. it was kind of a nightmare. I bought one and the only way to really protect it is to ship it the way LR does. In a big ass wooden crate. It's huge and heavy and you get killed on the shipping cost. sorry. |

build a wood crate/pallet then ship http://www.forwardair.com. The downfall is you have to pick it up and drop it off at a forwardair terminal. |

I would try Greyhound, I don't think they even require you to package it in anything. |

28"x 28"x70" for greyhound...thats what they told me 2 weeks ago when I was thinking about this for a rack in delaware. |

this is a long shot but, next possible way would be via the discoweb express. figure out anyone else near the rack who might be travelling in your general direction. see if they can meet up with someone who will then be travelling closer to you and so on and so on till they are near your house, or are comfortably close that you can meet them. this of course would only work for those w/o a rack. if it takes less than 5 people, maybe give each person $20. hell, i would do it for anyone needing to get anything from the DC area down to Richmond or VA Beach since I go that way once a month or so. just a thought..... |

...build an oversize cardboard box 'bottom', lay the rack in, get a can of expanding urethane foam and some small trash bags and fill the bags in place in all 4 corners + the sides. build a box top and tape in place. loosely described but you get the gist... |

I don't want to feast on your misery, but if you pass on the roof rack due to shipping, would you mind telling another D-webber about your deal? Maybe it's close to me? I live in New York. Is it D1 or D2? -John |

btw, this is very similiar to how they are packed from the factory. safety devices (the manuf) does not pack them in wooden crates. |

It's for a D1 and it's in Florida. I like the foam idea.....that would probably work. What carrier is good to use? Too big for UPS. |

Tommy -- this may be prohibatively expensive, but try freight shipping companies (I had a 14 bolt GM axle shipped that way once) or moving companies will add in small loads and pick them up (but are more expensive). P.S. the foam sounds like the way to go for packing. |

I have shipped 2 of them. I didnt do a thing other than tightened the bolts and slap a label on them. One I had to take to the trucking company, the other was picked up. Chris von C. |
