Hi Guys,
the drivers side door handle on my '96 has to be jerked to open the door- like the linkage inside isn't pulling the latch mechanism far enough. Can I adjust it, and if so, how?
Thanks again for all the help and advice!
Cheers,
Paul.

<--- 'Keyword Search'

This topic was just discussed a few weeks ago, Bluegill even provided a pic of his door.

i lived with this problem for a while, and might i suggest leaning into the passernger side starting the car and hitting the window down button. buy the time you make it around to the other side the window is down and you can stealthfully reach in and open the door with the inside handle. with practice it looks like you were doing it deliberatly.

-4 months later i finally fixed mine, thank god.

I just went through this. Tried re-adjusting the striker peg on the door frame and even the door hinges, no good.

THEN I looked at the actual mount for the inside door handle. The handle is mounted with 2 phillips screws (top left and bottom right, as you are looking at the handle). The mounting holes for these screws are slotted. Loosen the screws, move the handle & its mount forward (to take up the slack in the linkage), tighten the screws and Viola! (I hope).

I already had the entire door panel off when I did this. You MIGHT be able to do this by simply removing the little plastic door handle backing plate (1 black phillips screw, just behing where the handle rests)and acess the handle mounting screws that way.

Good Luck,

Rich

Mine did the same thing, but it was a problem with the linkage being too long, I adjusted the long screw-thingy a few turns, and haven't had and problems since.
