I read somewhere that the Discos factory fog lights are plugged into the back of the headlamps. I don't have factory fog lights but want to install Hellas on my brush gaurd. I noticed vacant plugs dangling behind the headlamp housing. Are these the plugs used for the factory fog lamps and can I use these for Hellas? |

Yes. Those are the plugs. You will need the fog light switch and relay. The relay location is behind the left (driver's) side kick panel (99 D1). Everything should be fine. |

Corey, I have an extra foglight switch if you are interested. It is the type used in a Disco 2 and is a momentary switch that would be used with the stock wiring system. Let me know if you want it. I'll send it your way for $10.00 shipped. Greg |

FYI (if this is a D1) The D1'S don't use a momentary switch - it is mechanical on/off. Also - if you use the factory wiring - the aux lights will only come on with the low beams - they shut off if you trigger the high beams. Bill |

Bill is correct. I couldn't tell from the post if it was a D2 or a D1. My switch is from a D2 though. |

I am going through the same thing. I spliced the hellas to the little dangling plugs and installed the factory plug in my dash. How hard is the relay location to find? Is it marked? Where can I get a relay to fit it? Thanks, Greg |

See above for location. Relay purchased at Radio Shack. |

Radio Shack? Really? Is there a special type or is the relay switch common? And I do want the Hellas to go off when I put the dims on, so wire to the plugs? And Greg, thanks, but I have already bought a factory switch for my D1. |

Ok....I looked where I think the relay should be, but nothing in there is labeled. Any more specific directions? I looked in the owners manual, but only the fuses are labeled there. No relays. |

Hi, I have the same problem guys, i plan to add fog lights, but i can't find the relay socket... Can you tell me what you call the kick panel ? Is it where all left switches are ? Or is it something else ? Thanks for you replies guys, it's getting annoying all these million miles of wires in a D1 !!! Krys |

The kick panel is the molded plastic piece that covers the inside of the truck next to your shin (your left shin). It has two or so plastic snaps that must be removed before removal. It slides back and out. The relay socket is toward the corner. i think there is a bank of two or three. On my truck, it was the only one w/o a relay. I hope that was helpful. My dig camera is on the fritz so I can't take pics to show. |

The relay goes on top if that makes sense. Look for an open relay socket. I'm not much help right now. I'm at work and the truck is in a parking deck. Anyone else help? |

Ok...so the kick palem is NOT the one under the steering wheel with the 2 quick release screws that houses the fuses? It is a real kick...like you would hit it with your foot...panel. Am I right? |

Some more confusion !!! Hi all, Yesterday i still have spent some time and tried some tricks i read around. So. I've been taking out the frame for the ash tray and whatever things, and I've been trying to find a damn relay socket. Nothing on the right side of the kick panel at all. No free socket. THen on the left side of it, linked to the mirror adjustment command, i saw a 6 pin rectangular connector, where 4 pins are wired only. The connector is 1" long and 0.3" wide. The wires connected are : one black, one blue and yellow, and two red&brown. I wonder if this could be involved in the wiring of those fog lights ! Anybody could check there fog lights relay socket ? Wich wire are connected ? And now, how could i make sure these wires are the correct ones ? Thanks all for your help. Krys |

Krys - I believe you're looking in the wrong spot - the relay socket is located behind the drivers side kick panel. The panel that is beside your left foot next to either the clutch or has the dead pedal bult into it. Remove trim on door sill and then take out 2 or 3 fasteners that hold kick panel in and finally slide kick panle out. Behind kick panel you will find a series of about 4 or 5 relays - one of them (second from the last going towards the hood I think) is for the lights. Your truck may or may not have a relay already installed in that spot regradless of whether the truck came with fog lights originally. Bill |

Ouch. Seems you are correct Bill I was looking at the wrong place. If i read you correctly. It's the panel that is behind the drivers pedals or somthing, not the compartment where all fuses are ? It's on the drivers side, does it make any difference if my DIsco is made for France, ie it's left hand drive ? Then shouldn't I find the relay socket on the right side of the car ? Thanks for your help ! Krys |

Keep in mind that if you have a D2, you'll need the dealer to activate your fogs via the test book for you, since it didn't come with them from the factory. |

Hi all, First of all, hope you had a nice Christmas, and lots of presents. I've been digging once again under the disco and undid a lot of panels. WHere am I now ? I found the green relay socket, and i was quite suprise to see that a relay was already installed there ! But i tried to test the voltage at the front connector using several combination of lights, fog, no fog etc...., nothing at all.... I thought to my self good news, but, checking at the wires colors, nothing seems to match the one in the front of the truck (those factory connector), plus i saw a thread on the forum explaining where the switch connector should be.... I found nothing there (under the clock and the emergency warning switch). All this brought me to wonder another thing. Where is the fuse for the fog lights ? So i was a bit fed up with the DIsco (D1 scott) wiring, and i put everything back together (a bit bored with this electical shit). Thanks anyway for your help, Krys |
