I bought my 2002 Disco II used and the dealer hasnt supplied me with a manual yet. What information is the display in the rear view mirror supposed to supply? When the car is running it is always in compass mode, but just as it starts up you can also see that it is capable of a temperature display, in both degrees Farenheit and Celsius. Is there a way to switch on this feature, or am I halucinating?

Thanks

Michael

I don't know what they were thinking including a mercury thermometer in those mirrors! The leaking issue is obviously a concern, not just as one additional leak, we're all used to those in our trucks, but more as a health consideration!

OK, now I am really confused. Is there actually a mercury thermometer housed in the rear view?

I assumed it was hooked to a remote sensor like the external temp reading on the heater display? I was curious as to why they would put 2 thermometers in.

I do not believe there is a temperature function to the rear view mirror. At least there shouldn't be... but it *is* Land Rover.

There is no thermometer in the mirror. The letter 'C' that I assume you are talking about means its in calibrate mode (not celcius), and you have to assign a zone for it. There is a pin button on the underside of the mirror.

If you leave it, it will calibrate itself after a while.

MB: I think (with no real factual basis) that the mirror can display the temperature as well. However, since the LR is set up to have an external temperature already, there is no sensor hooked up. Just my thoughts (and possibly hooey).

Mark,

According to my shop manual (and it is possibly wrong, I know) there is no thermometer or temp readout.

DB: I'm going off the numbers and degree symbol) you can see in the little box on the mirror in bright daylight. I have a 01 DII.

Hm Interesting. I wonder if its a generalized display that has many unused elements, or whether there really is a secret way to enable this! According to my book, there's not. But I would love to have that enabled, because I get tired of pushing that stupid button on the heater control to see the temp!

What's with the auto-dims and turning black? My mirror has a liquid substance that's leaked into the corners/front of the mirror. Can I take the mirror part out and get rid of that liquid stuff and put it back together?
