Guys and Gals:

I am going to look at a '94 RRC LWB w/ 180k and "body damage" today. They are asking $1200 and I am considering it for a dedicated trail rig. My understanding is it needs a new hood and one, possibly both, front fenders. I would assume it will then also need a bumper and grille.

Any tips on what I should look for?

Is it a good choice for a trail rig?

Seems like a decent price, but I haven't seen it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Curious. Why would you want a LWB for a dedicated trail rig? A friend of mine has one and even in the not so difficult stuff he sometimes struggles to get through due to the long wheel base. Just because the price is right doesn't mean it's a deal...

Just at thought.

I thought about the wheelbase issue, and figured that it might actually help in some situations. I have never really considered a lwb before, but the ad piqued my interest.

btw, what is the wheelbase on a LWB?

The wheelbase is 108". While it is a LWB classic, from mid 1995 and on all Range Rovers were 108" wheelbase. For many trails the LWB will be better off road. For some trails the SWB will be better. I think it depends more on the driver than the wheelbase.

As for $1200, you can't buy anything for that. As long as the frame is ok and the damage didn't get back into the doors, the price is fine. I'd add a radiator to the parts list.

you can pick up hoods and fenders for cheap off of parted out rovers. but my question is if it's a trail rig do you need those :)

check for rust under the carpet in the footwells and door sills.

Roberto - do you still have that link to that guy's site where he got a great "deal" on that RR and ended up finding all the rust and he basically replaced all that metal one piece at a time?

just put them on,

goodyear all season radial hand me downs until i can build my knot up for real tires.

they rub on the Radius arm when i turn so i'll have to adjust the steering stops. it's too dark to take a picture and the rover no longer fits in the garage :) flexing later in the week.

it still looks 1000% better thean the old man look the truck was sporting for the last year.
