My insurance offers a pretty good discount for vehicles with daytime running lights.
I just purchased a 03 HSE and traded in a 99 DII that had daytime running lights. I know that daytime running ligths are required in some countries like Canada. Does anyone know if there is an internal "switch" (like on the 99 DII) that turns them on. The local dealer says they "think" it requires extra parts.

Thanks.

Should just be done in testbook like on your 1999 D2. If the dealer can't tell you that's pretty lame. Ask someone in service that actually uses testbook.

Not a test book thing.

Dealer has to install something in the system. $230ish to get it done since the DRL's run @ about 60% power.

I asked when I bought my 03 since I am in Chicago but am from canada and like the DRL.

I had daytime running lights put into my '00 DII. It required a relay and a few other parts. I agree with Al in that if the dealer can't say what it takes, thats really lame! Ross is about right, $230ish. I don't know for sure as mine was free because the sales person said it had them and when I took delivery it, of coarse, did not work so they installed it for free.

I always thought it was a switch in Testbook. I know other car companies do it like that. I guess it's another one of those "It's a Land Rover thing" to not have the DRL but they have citylights and rear fog lights while 95% of people in the US have no idea what those two things are.

I had the DRL "turned on" on my 99D2. It was a testbook option. I found out about them on www.disco2.com in the tech/eletrical section. They do seem to operate with about 60% light. They definitely aren't the city lights. I did not buy my rig new, so I don't know if any additional parts are there. I just requested that they be activated and they were.

Maybe a '03 needs something additional due to the pocket lights. I don't know.

On my 1999 Disco SD Series 1, I have DRL when I turn on the parking lights. Do the Series II lights work that way also?

RonLF, that is most likely the "city light" a 10 watt bulb in the headlamp that comes on with the running lights.

Ross,

I just got back from the dealership and it turns out it was a test book issue on the 03. It only cost me $42.98 in labor to get them turned on. You may want to talk to the dealer that stuck you for the $230.

My DRL run at full power - there is no difference when the headligths are turned on.
