Sorry, newbie 4x4 question here: I think I understand why to get springs...ride height, ride quality, right? But why new shocks? is it just to increase articulation/extension? |

The shocks will add to ride quality. For every vehicle I have bought (all used), one of the first tasks has been to change the shocks. You will notice a big difference if you are running old suspension. |

Springs make your truck a pogo stick or worse (w/out shocks). The shocks determine how much of that you realize. For instance, when going over a large dip in the freeway, how many times will the truck bounce before leveling back out to static ride height? That's the most simple illustration. A good set of shocks makes all the difference in the world... You can see how good your current set is by jumping on the rear bumper, making the rear end bounce up and down, the jump off and see how many times it goes up and down on it's own before coming to rest. I like mine to go: down, up, level... Brian |

hehe running without shocks is funny - just make sure the body is clamped tight to the springs! also, to answer Bill's Q, people frequently install aftermarket springs that are a bit longer than stock (for added lift); stock shocks are usually too short to cope with added spring length and can literally rip apart if overextended. |
