I went through 4 alternators in one summer. The last one actually caught on fire!
They were all Bosch.
After a long conversation with the head of the SE Reigon for Bosch, I recieved a brand, spanking new Magnet Murelli alternator in the mail along with a personal check from him for $20.00, 3 Bosch T-shirts, and a few hats.

I put the Murelli in and haven't had any problems since.

BTW, it was in a 97 Disco...don't know if RRC has the same type. At least they are easy to change in a Disco!

Whatever you do, do NOT buy a rebuild!

I agree with Greg. Even though I purchased a rebuild in July of 2001. Six months later it started to go bad. I brought it back and got a new/rebuilt one for free. It still is working. My friend purchased a rebuil from Starter Alternator express (3 year warranty and $109) and had it replaced three times.

You could also purchase a 130 amp alt for a Mustang but you have to get the bracket from Wrangler. I think Larry Grub did this setup and AdrianS is in the process of installing his Mustang alt.

The RR install is very easy just like the Disco install.

My truck is on its fourth Marelli. This one has lasted the longest.

Of course, this will be the next thing to break!

Next time-Delco.

no matter what alt. you put in, I would double check all of the grounding wires.. there are 4 major ones to look at.. even if they look fine visually, there is usually a fair amount of corrosion underneath the fancy rubber coating. Replace the alt ground, battery ground, chasis ground on Passenger side front body mount & passenger side rear body mount (right near the trailer wiring access point)

I have had my morelli rebuilt by a local shop and it is working 100% and have not had a problem since I replaced all the grounds (about $40 in parts).. you will be surprised at how many gremlins will disapear...

GOOD LUCK
