Getting rid of these #!#%& Wrangler HPs tomorrow. Thought I would give the new Toyo Open Country A/Ts a try. If they suck they can be returned under Toyo's 45 day/500 mile guarantee.

These won't be off-road tires since I have Cooper STTs for that. Thought I would try these in a 10 ply Load Range E tire. Anyone have any regrets with other 10 ply tires?

I think the ten ply's feel a little firmer,which offers more control. I think my tires are supposed to be run at 80psi or something. I just run them about 10 psi lower than that, with no ill effects.

E rated tires are designed to carry around 3250 lbs. each at full pressure. Figure you and your loaded Disco weigh around 4500 or so. If you air E rated tires near max pressure the contact patch of the tire is going to be very crowned. This means the contact patch will be much smaller than at proper pressure. This will lead to substantially decreased lateral traction and greatly accelerated wear along the midline of the tire. I'm guessing 35-40 lbs will do the job, provide better handling and ride and allow the tire to last much longer.

These impressions are based on my experience running a Ford 1 Ton with single rear wheels, used as a commuter as well as a hauler pulling a 6 ton Bobcat trailer. If I didn't air down when running no load, tire life was radically decreased. Airing up and airing down was sometimes a daily task. On that truck which weighed around 7000 empty I ran 45-50 up front and 40-45 in the back. C-rated tires at 50 lbs gives you near 5 tons of capacity; for on-road use more plies might equal heavier tire which equals more inertia which equals poorer acceleration. Since there's no money difference, 10 plies on a SUV=?

I have the tires you are looking at on my '98 except not E rated. I'm happy with them though I haven't been living with them long. I'd echo Lance's question of why E rated?

Justin, that 80 psi is the max pressure, not the recommended running pressure. Be sure to read Lance's post.

My experience has led me to run about 40 - 44 pounds on the road. When you run less the tires get very slow to react and unresponsive. The ride is better the lower you go. You need to play with the pressure until you find the settings you like.

got some limited experience w/ toyo open country a/ts on a different truck, they aren't to bad, plenty of grip on wet pavement.

I have a set of BFG AT "E" (245/75/16) and I don't find them harsh at all... In fact, they are more comfortable (I'm running 36/40 right now f/r) than the stock XPCs...
