Ah yes, the odyssey continues... Good news and bad news (OK, maybe not bad, just less good). Tore down my engine again last night-you know, when you've done it this many times, those bolts just spin right out, although I still can't get that damned snake belt on first time. Checked the block where it looked like it was leaking coolant... No problems, the water was running back along a bolt to the block and then along a casting line. Looked just like a crack. Put the spare water pump back on-it worked when I took it off. It leaks from the weep hole too! Being very badly defeated and more than a little depressed at this point, I decided to at least see if the damned thing ran. At this point, I was still worried the block might be bad, a sleeve might have dropped, or worse, cracked. Pause for effect... I turned the key and the damned thing roared to life! It now idles so much more smoothly, it is absolutely wonderful, and might make it all worthwhile, if I can get a new water pump before the next millenium. Peace, Paul |
