Anybody have any experience installing a Warn HS9500 on an ARB bumper (DI/non-airbag model)???

The guy at ARB thinks that this winch won't fit - but doesn't know.

If anybody has any wisdom to throw my way re: the installation, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Not sure about a DI bumper, but I did try it on my DII bumper and it does NOT fit. The motor housing is too wide to fit in the winch cut-out space.

So I would imagine that it is the same for the DI.

Cheers,

Yep - it'll fit with some creative hacking and spacing.

The one I did - required grinding out some of the internal web on the inside of the bumper to clear the diameter of the motor - then you must also fabricate some 3/8" - 1/2" thick spacers to push the feet of the winch away from the inside face of the bumper. I used 3/8" x 1 1/2" x ~5" pieces of steel drilled to match the winch foot pattern.

It will work, but the looks aren't the greatest when done.

Also - if it is an integrated solenoid winch - then the solenoid pack is parellel to the ground and acts as a water scoop - kills the solenoids until they dry out.

Bill, John and I (inbetween fixing my bulkhead) put a 9000i on Dom'd DI ARB.

Not ideal but it fit. Would mean more grinding/spacing with the HS9500 due to the cooling fins.

Get a M12000

Here is an HS9500 in a D1 non-airbag ARB. Note the cutting on the PS and the 1" square SS stock used for spacers. The solenoid box is in the engine compartment.

Ron, I thought about a M12000 but for the amount of wheeling I do it would be overkill. Plus that damned M12000 is almost twice as heavy as a HS9500. That's a lot of friggin' weight up there.

And more importantly, the M12000 was about $400 more - and I'm a cheap bastard (even though it was a gift)
