How does the D1 handle on the freeway after you remove the front air dam? Just curious as to the tradeoffs... thx |

You are driving a brick anyway, removing the airdam makes absolutely no difference. Rover aerodynamics is an oxymoron..... |

I recently removed the airdam and trimed the endcaps. Drove pretty much the same. I would recommend doing the deed and remove that airdam.... before the trail does it ;) Jeremy Katka |

I recently did the same thing. No difference what-so-ever. |

It will handle the same- poseurs, neighbors, and coworkers will only think and say "man how did you crash your Toyota Jeep Range Rover". |

So true 94rover. Someone asked me if I I crashed and lost my bumper. I actually like seeing all the crap under the truck. I am sure many are horrified and wonder why I "ruined" my Rover by putting BFG MT 235's and black steel rims. Hell, my wife started telling me I ruined it when I took the sidestep off a week after I bought the truck. |

I really got strange looks when I blacked-out my hood But actually, most people I saw thought my removed lower airdam looked very good. |

Don't do it! You'll screw up the flux capacitor and you'll die!!! I kid you not! |

Jeff, as long as he slaps some DiscoWeb stickers on his rig, his flux capacitor should maintain relative stability. Now, if he was considering removal of his mudflaps, my message would read quite differently. |

Dr. Blue- You are correct that the capacitors in the years 94-97 remain within normal operating parameters vis a vis stability forces. In later model years Lucas introduced the Flux Capacitor series II. This new Flux capacitor is connected to the R2 unit's motivator chip thereby completely bypassing the need for an airdam (my friend Marty McFly calls them "modesty skirts") . Please keep in mind that the new flux capacitor leaks as much oil as the original. Have those stickers handy for the occasional leaks. I refuse to be lured into a lengthy discussion on the mudflap factor's influence on this setup. |

It is only after several shifty glances out of both corners of my eyes that I can secretly type this...it was with much trepidation that I first pondered the front bumper/air dam paragigm. Only after heavy doses of electro shock, reverse psychology, "do it before the trail does" treatments did I decide to lose the stock front. I've since tackled the mudflap matrix and the rear bumper end-cap quandry...currently in progress,...a homestyled front bumper consisting of steel of such magnitude, even the forces of time itself are sure to marvel at its strength; and laugh at its design. DAMN IT...now its out. It is only through raw, animal persitence that I hope to conquer this age old front end fiasco! :-) Spoon |

LOL I actually have a picture of the REAL flux capacitor inside the delorean from when I went to Universal Studios when I was about 15...wonder if I could dig that up and use it as a talisman against trail damage... |

Never mind all that. In the future, air dams/modesty skirts/spoilers are all melted down into a delicious new candy called "Soylent Green." I'll try to bring some back from the future. Gotto go! |

John, At least you are preempting the removal of the air dam before the automated-trail removal approach is realized. I however persistently ignored the automated approach, which has lead to numerous reassemblies of my air dam. That stupid air dam was so twisted, ripped to shreds and but ugly when Mike Bauer finally convinced me to break-out the Dremmel and cut away. Now that it is off, I have noticed a huge weight lifted off my shoulders since I used to worry too much about approach angles etc Not any more! Another very positive aspect of running without an air-dam, now at highway speeds, I can punch the accelerator and do a wheelie to impress the jap-bike crowd, where as before, that air-dam forced my front-end down. Ha! |

Thanks for all the interesting responses!!! The air dam is gone! |
