Q1) How does it work (technically)?

Q2) How does it work (like, how does it react in situations offroad)?

I'm considering this along with ome springs & shocks for my otherwise stock 2001 SD.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas.

ps - I'm open to other suggestions for our mostly offroad duty only D2 (nothing radical.)

I haven't seen anyone with a D2 that runs a drop kit yet but I would make sure the ABS and Brake lines are long enough before considering this as an option. The routing of the ABS and brake lines on a D2 is different than the D1 or D90. Another modification you might need is to replace the rotoflex with a u-joint.

Why do you think you need a drop kit? Have you considered a rear locker?

Well, I don't know if I need a drop kit or not, just wondering exactly what it is about. SG includes one with their 'stage 1a' suspension kit, which also includes OME springs & shocks. It doesn't mention any 'options' such as brake or ABS lines.

My D2 has a u-joint (non-zerk, though).

Our offroad stuff is in the mountains and desert of Nevada & Utah - traction has been less of an issue than body clearance, so a locker would be nice but I'd go for an extra inch or two of clearance for body bits first.

I haul a pop-up camper sometimes, and the rear really sags a bit, so stiffer rear springs would help here, too, right?

Plus, I'll never forget the difference new (Tokico) shocks made when I put them on our old 4WD (tiny Dodge Raider) years ago.

So, my original questions stand....

The drop kit just allows the spring to drop out of the top a little more without it popping out of place.

You do not require extended lines for that kit.

If your rear prop shaft is stock then you have a rotoflex in the rear (not u-joint). But what it will do is allow your rear axle to drop allowing the rear wheel to get better traction in situations where you push the articulation. This is to aid in traction. But I would really question SG if they tell you that ABS and Brake lines aren't needed if you drop the rear another 2"+ from stock and with a lift.

You might want to do a search here on SG to get an idea. And also consider http://www.rovertym.com for suspension upgrades.

"You do not require extended lines for that kit. "

Chris, why do you say this? Have you seen the $G kit on a D2? Or are you basing this on experience with a D1? Just wondering.

Al - thanks for clearing up the Rotoflex issue - I saw the u-joint at the front of the transfer case, and just stupidly assumed.....

Anyway, I think springs / shocks will do me fine for now. Is it worth looking any further than OME for these? Thanks.

I had drop cones on my DII. It's my experiance that because of the type of rear suspension, DII's don't benefit from drop kits like DI's do. I removed mine.
