I am looking for a good duel purpose tire, without breaking the bank. I have been looking at Pirelli Scorpions and Bridgestone Dueler Devos. Any other suggestion would be appreciated. |

I like my BFG ATs, but they suck in mud. They are pretty decent in snow, and fine in dry conditions. IMHO they have the best looking tread pattern, if that matters at all to you. |

I second the Yokohama's just used them in 16 inches of snow. They work great! Stay away from the wrangler HP's. |

I'll second that Eric, Dunlop Radial Rover R/T's are amazing. They are THE BEST replacement for the discontinued BF Goodrich Trac-Edge. |

CJ, the Dunlops, in size 245/75/16, were only $94 each from the Tire Rack. If you live near a Costco they'll do the install for less than $10 a tire. |

id say there really aren't any good all around tire. its either highway or offroad. even BFG AT's don't do well offroad if you're in mud. and mud tires obviously aren't made for the road. In conclusion bridgestone dueler MT's are the way to go. or Goodyear mtr's but they're more dollars. Go to different tire places and ask them if they have any blemished tires. Cost a lot less and since the black side WILL be out, theres no problem. |

Funny, I live in Utah and find lots of mud in the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains pretty much all year. I've needed MT tires quite a few times out here in the west, not all of the west is Moab or deserts of Cali. Buy tires for the terrain you drive, if you want get street tires for the street and a second wheel set for mudding. Andy 95 d1 slc ut |

Ouch.... I think you pinched me!!!! There ain't no REAL mud in the west is there? There certainly isn't any in Colorado... And very little that i've messed with in my neighboring states;-) I have swampers for the "rocks" In our states... And AT's for Ice and snow... but they work okay in "most" Cases.... Really... |

Dunlop Radial Rover R/T is still my favorite all-round tire, but the BFG Commercial TA-traction tires are not bad.... better in mud than an AT, but still not a full MT..... FWIW... -L |

I run the R/T's as well, but really - it is just a tire. Make sure it has rubber and is round. They are all pretty good these days as long as it is not a Goodyear HP. |

I just got the Bridgestone Revo's in a 235/85 on my RRC. They are ok in mud, but excelent on highway, and snow/rain. I had BFG MT's, but for my new tires I needed something that I could get alot of miles out of since I am about to go to college, and it I will be in the mountains where there will be a fair amount of snow. The other thing is that I don't have sway bars, so tires tend to cup out fairly fast, and the more the lugs are spaced out, the faster they will cup. I didn't go with BFG AT's because I have heard to many balancing horror stories, and they don't have a treadlife warranty. The Bridgestones have a 50,000 mile treadlife warrantly on them, so they should see me all the way through college. Also on Tirerack.com, in the stats section, the Bridgestone outdoes the BFG in every catagory. Just my .02 Will |

I went to a Firestone/Bridgestone dealership yesterday to look at a pair of Revo's. Good looking tire. That would be my first choice over the BF Goodrich A/T's. The only problem is that there are not Revo's in stock anywhere. I am looking at the 265/75/16's for my 2000 Disco II. Where did you get yours? |

I third the Yoko Geolanders. I've used them in sand, snow, mud, and rock and have been very surprised by them. Highly reccommended. |

Kelly, The local tire shop that I go too had them in their wharehouse...it was no problem for me to get them. Greg, I came close to getting the Yoko's, but I heard that they wear down way to fast...maybe it's just the MT's. Will |

Keith I was about to agree with you but I have to say that you can find real mud CO, you just might have to really look for it. It's easy to do a lot of wheeling with very little mud involved here in CO, but it is out there... AT tires suck for mud. Some do marginally better than others, probably the Dunlop Rover R/T is the best mud performer of the AT tires but it can't hold a candle to the worst performing mud tire when it comes to mud. I don't see much mud anymore(especially in this drought!) so the mudders go unused. My D1 came with a fresh set of Toyo Open Country ATs, they have performed well on the road, dirt, wet, snow. Haven't put them in real mud but I know that they would suck. Ken |

If you look you'll find mud in the west, I agree with Ken. I grew up and started wheelin in Pa. So I know what east cost mud looks like. I spent some time in the pacific northwest too, so maybe western mud isn't like those places, but go wheeling after the snow starts to really melt or when the first snows fall. Lots of good mud holes here, I know because my wrangler ap's(not hp's) are a AT type tire and work fine until I get into deep mud, then they suck ass. I want new tires but if I do I want to go bigger that the 245/70/16's I have to get more clearence. I am thinking a 235/85 an AT type of tire. Will I need to regear? I have a D1 with a ome lift, I have been thinking about those dunlop rover r/t's. My wranglers refuse to show anytype of wear, so I have trouble justifing replacing them right now. Andy 95 d1 |

Sure, this weekend would work either day. Just watch for big mud holes, I do have recovery straps and chains though. Maybe I should go get some tire chains. What about the west desert or by the salt lake, any trails you know about there? My guess is the mountains we might need sleds. Try sending me an email,at [email protected] Andy |

I knew I could start sumthin'!!!! I've found mud in Colorado/ Utah/ Wyoming and even in New Mexico... But now they're mostly protected "wet lands" I grew up wheeling in Colorado... Most all the mud i've ever played in you can get to the bottom of with a decent size tire...But i had an opportunity to got play with a friend in Mississippi... Tehy have REAL MUD down there... The real reason for mud tires!!!! |

You guys got it all wrong. A tire is not good for duelling. Use a sword or a pistol. |

Wrong, John. If he's looking for a duelling tire, he needs a Bridgestone Dueler. |

I just went thru the "Tire Delimma". My Disco was wearing its second set of stock michelins when I bought her with 83k on the odo. These tires were badly cupped and low on tread. With MAR 2k2 fast approaching I needed new tires. My criteria in order of importance: 1) price ... no more than $130 per tire 2) offroad ability 3) onroad comfort (noise etc). After reading here (thx Leslie) and talkin to one of the Xterra guys that I wheel with I decided on the Dunlop Radial Rovers R/Ts. But, as is my nature I procrastinated too long in order to have them installed for MAR (14 days to special order them)! Yikes. So, with a week to go I began research all over again. To make a long story short let me summarize my tire candidates: 1) BFG AT TKO - nice tire all around , but expensive 2) BFG MT - nice tire, good offroad, expensive 3) Geolander, Perilli, better on road than off, cheap, not in stock 4) Bridgestone Dueller AT Revo with UNI-T AQII (http://www.bridgestonetire.com/dpp/glamourindex2.asp?passproductid=1055) I settled on the dueller and my local firestone dealer had them in 245/75 for $133 each installed. SOLD! (or so I thought). Since I decided to go up slightly in size I needed a new spare ... lo and behold the tire guy comes out with a 245/75 BFG-Trac Edge! I ask him and he says he has a full set of 4 ... for only $50 each cause he's tired of looking at them. Well, I snatched up those tires in a hurry. Excellent offroad capability, but NOISY on road, but hey, I can deal with the noise if it means I get to save $300. Fast forward 2 months to the present. Wow, these tires are REALLY noisy. I'm in the process of getting 3 more disco steelies so I can move the Trac-Edges off to them and I'll have a dedicated set of trail tires. I'll probably put some scorpions on the alloys for their on road manners. If I were going to only have 1 set of tires I'd go with the Revos. You should at least check them out before you make your final decision. |

Dunlop Radial Rover R/T's I have them on my 1st-Gen Trooper and they are an excellent "duel purpose tire" IMO. Not too noisy on-road, and quite good off road. The price is right too. |
