If this issue has been touched on before I apologize.

I just received my ARB bumper and Warn XD9000 winch. When starting the installation process, there's a statement in the ARB directions that has me in a pickle. It states:

"On 8000lb and 9000lb winch models, a spacer kit will be required Pt no. 3500020. This spacer kit moves the winch back 8mm to allow installation."

I have no such kit and something is definitely needed. When I lay the winch into the bumper the motor end rests on the bumper itself leaving the mounting holes about ¼ apart.

I have called about 6 different places listed on the ARB dealer list and that kit number has been discontinued. So what do I do? I have called ARB and they are apparently not there during their stated hours.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to do some serious off-roading next week so this installation is a must for me as soon as possible.

Thanks!

the spacer kit is just a bunch of washers you put on the winch mounting bolts inbetween the bullbar and the winch, they serve the purpose of moving he winch back further towards the truck so the gear case will clear the inside of the bull bar. It seems like I needed about 5 washers on each bolt but I can't remember for sure.

Thanks for that info. Does using washers to gain the required spacing diminish any strength to the setup? If washers are all that is required do you think that the bar kit has them included? The reason I ask that is because the bar kit came with loads and loads of nuts, washers, and the like that at this point (just laying it out in the garage) it seems that I have way more than what is required?

Mike:

I just installed an ARB with a winch on my RRC (no airbags). I also ordered it with the spacer kit, no problems getting it, I think they are just BSing you, the kit is $23. I would recommend using the spacer kit, the spacers are one piece 1/4" thick steel plates with two holes for the mounting bolts to go through, one steel bar/spacer per side, the spacer will spread the load over the whole area. The spacer kit came with 4 plates, I just needed 2 to clear my winch, one per side, you can stack them if you need more clearance. You could also probably fabricate something, but I would just order it.

Yeah, the info I gave you is what ARB told me when I called them. I used nothing but extra washers that I had in the bag that came w/ the bar so I think they were right. I don't think it dimished the strength, I have done a lot of winching and not had any problems. If you think about it it makes sense, its not like it will give any extra leverage or anything because all the force will be applied straight down on the washers, actually pushing them together tighter when any force is applied.

Outstanding information guys. Thanks a lot. I have thought myself about both of your options and if I can make something like what the "kit" sounds like I will do that but if not I will try the washers (if that's what ARB now intends I do). Again, thanks for the quick responses.
