dug through the archives but couldn't find much. I'm gonna tackle the snorkel (safari) install tomorow. Anyone got any tips for installing the snorkel/removing the fender/lining up the template that might aleviate some headaches??? Thanks guys.

I used a dremel with cutting wheel instead of a $20 hole saw. Cut cleaner, in my opinion, as well. I didnt have many problems lining it up, but moving the stuff under the hood wasnt much fun. Be careful cutting the blk rubber air intake hose, I cut more than I should have off, and another friend of mine with the same setup did the same thing. Just think twice and cut once. Other than that, no real problems.

Thanks Roger, I'll be shure to watch how short I cut the intake hose, and I was planning on using a dremel for the hole (unless a neighbor has a hole saw I can borrow) so I'm glad it worked for you. I'll post pics tomorow, since I can borow my parents digital camera, if anyone cares to see how bad I manage to screw this simple job up. :) LOL, got to get to bed need to start this job early tomorow since I will definitly need the truck back together for Monday. Night guys.

Install went great, Ron is right I should have bought a hole saw but I got the job done anyway and it looks great. I was really suprised w/ the fit of everything all the brackets, everything was pretty much dead on. I was a little worried because I had a bitch of a time getting my ARB bullbar on.

I'll try to get pics up Paul but nobody else is here right now and I don't have a clue how to use this camera.

ok, a bit late but maybe these pics can help someone else out ...

the first thing ron and i did while installing the snorkel on my disco was to cut the black air intake hose. mistake!

don't do this until the end as the directions provided tell you to cut off much more than needed.

then we addressed the airbox.

the horn as well as the little plastic protruding thingies were delt with with the sawzall.

the corresponding mounting plates were then attached with given hardware.

we also used the sawzall to cut the new hole on the side of the air intake for the new air intake pipe to go into. *note: do this prior to installing the above plate. just trust me on this .. things will be a lot easier!! =)

we then used the provided stencil to mark the holes to be drilled/cut with a marker.

they were then drilled out.

here's where things took a turn ...

we used the sawzall to try to cut the primary hole for the snorkel intake to go through. things went, well, less than perfectly. a sawzall just can't be manipulated (no matter how hard one may try) to produce a circular [or even somewhat rounded] result.

a hole saw was bought immediately at a local home depot.

things then got much, much, better.

and the final result, after some careful fitting and attaching of snorkel with bolts and additional brackets.
in fact, this whole install went very smoothly .. safarisnorkel really does an adequate job of making sure it will fit, no matter how much of a halfass install you do.

Nah, its all good Dominik, my snorkel is on and doing fine, your additions should help a few people when they dig this one up in the archives sometime.

I saw one explanation where the entire fender was removed... I was not looking forward to installing my snorkel but after seeing your posts, it's overkill. Thanks for posting these.

There is also a tech section on mantec snorkel install that shows clearly how to take of the fender, may be useful. Its for a D2.
