Been hearing some popping over the past week or so, and finally had David Gage up at Thatched Roof Garage to lend a hand in diagnostics. He knew almost immediately what it was. Anyhow, replaced it today, and was surprised to see the extent to which mine was deteriorated.

Mine is a '96 with approximately 132k on it. It lived up north and there is lots of deterioration down under from all the salt. I had been hearing a "clunk" underneath my drivers side floor board, as well as some other nasty popping sounds. If I took off Hard upon initial acceleration, you could definitely tell something was wrong down under there. Good luck to ya..

used a floor jack to support the tran*ny, undid 3 bolts on the frame, as well as the two bolts on the mount itself, pulled it out. The new bolts on the mount didn't match the old one so I had to go to Home Depot and spend .27 on nuts. Slid it back in place, got the 3 started through the frame, and then the 2 for the mount itself. Tightened em all back down, it was good to go. Very easy fix. Total cost for this project was .27! David Gage found a brand new mount laying in front of his shop and handed it over to me free of charge. He is one heck of a guy! I can see a bumper in my near future coming from him (TJM)

While your under there.. check the motor mounts. Mine were in the same condition that your transmission mounts. I think there are also transfer case mounts under there?
