Is it possible to reprogram the key fob remotes(for a 98 Disco) on you own or do I need to go to the dreadfull dealer? I got a couple remotes of ebay, but I need to get them program for my car.

Not if it's a two button (98 is 2 button I think). That is dealer only.

The single buttons can be w/o the dealer. There is a special sequence of things that must be done.

I did this just this past week for my new olde 95 Disco. Two things to keep in mind:

Thing1: It works best with two people. I talked #2 Daughter into standing by open hood to hold switch down until I flagged to let it go.

Thing2: the Hood Switch caught me un-awares until I opened the hood. Lo and behold it's on the right hand side.

Oh, and Thing3: I didn't realize until finished the first time (note 2 times) -- that you have to re-program the existing remote as well as the new remote -- if you're gonna have two.
