I got my exaust system repleced by midas a while ago and now when I idle this is this loud shaking noise coming from the muffler. When I figured out where it was coming from, the muffler was shaking and hitting a metal plate above it. Does this plate do anything or can i just remove it?
Thanks
Chris

This is normal wear and tear. The heat shield ends up with stress fractures at the mounting bolts on top of the exhaust. If it is really bad all mounting points will fail and the heat shield just rattles ontop of the exhaust. It sounds real bad at idle.
You can pull it out easily and replace without removing the exhaust. I've done this one on of my rovers and on the other I just yanked it out and have not replaced it yet.

Chris, if you don't mind me asking, what did the exaust system set you back? I have to replace the entire exaust system on mine. I found that the marketup w/LR was a $1000.00 swing vs. ordering the parts yourself.
