Like the subject says. Beside general vehicle feel etc. what should I be looking for, testing for, making sure it works? Rick |

Test everything! Really, I bought mine and discovered that the cruse control didn't work, and it isn't the common vaccume leak. look for oil leaks, before and after you drive it, even the next day, heck as often as possible before you buy, that way you can catch them if they have been washing off the bottom. Anyone else?... |

Rick, I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't heard of anything special to check while driveing, aside from everything as BJ mentions. I understand that the tranny can get sloppy and clunk when you shift into and out of D, etc. So check that. I think mainly make sure it handles properly and check all the gizmos as they're what breaks. Also, check that the lights come on when you first turn the key. I know the RRC often have dash lights on so if you check for them at start up, you can make sure that they have not been disconnected to hide a problem. IMHO, without a solid set of maint record proof, I would walk away. Now if records are in order, then, to add to the above list... Take the rig offroad and test the H&L diff-lock, if it's a D1. Take the VIN# and check the history, may find a crash. Like BJ says, push every button you have, many times to ensure it is working properly. From a dead stop, hit the accelerator and see if you feel a thump under your feet. Are the springs sagging, measure from each wheel. Take a hose and soak it, look for cabin/window leaks. Take a flashlight and crawl under to see just how the rig will color your driveway. If you have located a good LR mech, then let him take a good looksie. |
