i thought was funny at first because it is talking about racing and especially drag racing
and it is for a land rover
but would this thing really work
would it destroy your engine
just wondering

Timimg advancement is free ( as long as you or someone you know has a timing light). Why pay someone else 10 bucks? Early NAS Rovers didn't have a knock sensor on the block, so too much advance will cause detonation or 'ping'. Slower burning high octane fuel will help detonation, but temps can skyrocket (and cause serious damage) with too much advance.

Smells bad. They don't really say what parts are in the kit.

Hey Blake,

13 to 15 degrees of advance works nicely with the earlier 3.9 liter distributor engines. As long as you run high octane fuel, particularly in the summer, it makes a noticeable difference, without Pining Issues. Every Motor Is different though, hence the reason I say 13 to 15 degrees. Im currently running 15 Degrees of advance on my 95 Defender, and have had no problems, and noticeable improvements in power.

I agree that this kit "smells bad", and I would too steer clear. While timing advance is easy on the distributor motors, I don't think you can advance the timing on the GEMS motors without a Chip Swap in the ECU. Anyone?

I have a 95 disco and drive/live at 8000ft. Would advancing my timing give me a little more power? Is this something that I could do myself?

James,
We also live at altitude (6000 feet). The timing advance to 12 or so from the factory 6 would definitely benefit you at altitude. It made ausch a difference to ur 95 Disco that my wife even noticed it.
It is really easy to do yourself but without a timimg light its a bit hit and miss. All you need to do is loosen the lock nut at the bas of the distributor and rotate it a little while shining the light on the fly wheel and observing the timing marks.
Whoever services your car can do it for you in a few minutes.
