O.K. Here we go again. I swear if I ever get this thing closed I'm never opening it again.
Long story short, the rear sunroof on my 98 is stuck. It goes all the way forward but the little roller can't seem to pull itself to the front of the rail it rides in to clamp the glass down. Also, the glass is a little loose on the rail it is attached to. I'm sure this is a contributing factor. The front has had the same problem, but I have managed to always get it closed on the first or second try. Any ideas?
p.s. I had a window busted out last night (nearly caught the fucker-would have beat his ass with a crowbar), so if I can't find glass locally, I'm going to the dealer today. Could this be a simple adjustment/tighten the glasss? I'm sure they will try to sell me a new rail assembly.
Thanks,
Daniel

Daniel,
I have the same problem with my 97, rear sunroof. It takes a few times to lock it down. I suggest you take off the glass, clean-out the tracks and hit with some grease. Not sure if lube is going to solve, it may be worn-track on the arm or the roller. While you have the glass out, clean out your drains as well.
Good luck.

I have a 94 D1 with a stuck rear sunroof and a front sunroof with a broken rail. Dealership mechanic told me that the rails are the main problem as the damn things are made of plastic! I think Bruce may be on the right idea. Perhaps a silicon or lithium based lubricant.

Thanks for the comments. How would I go about getting the glass out? Can this be done w/o removing the headliner? Those little star screws are tucked in pretty far. They are loose and the glass shifts. Would that cause this problem?
BTW, I did get it closed finally by pulling it forward from the inside while pressing the button. It's o.k. if I pop it up, as long as I don't make it go back any I can close it.

Undo the 'star screw' holding the glass. Carefull you don't drop the glass. Refitting is easy but to get it closed/locked is a pig.

Have you tried helping the roofs? Mine had a prob, poping and sticking, but while pushing the switch I used my hand and pushed up and in on the glass in the direction I wanted them to go. That worked till I cleaned the rails and relubed them with some Vaseline type lithium grease. Now there fine. Mike J.

Daniel, you will need one of the 90-degree screw-drivers to reach the screws.
