Just read the useless "Four Wheel" magazine article...

Anyone have one of these, or is considering installing one? If so, I'm curious as to how well it works...

In a Disco 1, rear diff...what model would go there?

Seems like there would be less maintenance issues than the ARB?

I read the same article slider, and to be honest it seems like a pretty simple setup, with much less opportunity for problems than the arb, considering the seal problems and all.

Although there is a big difference between theory and practice, so I am kind of with you as far as being skeptical. The down side is that I would imagine it will be a while before they make an application that works in the rover dif. The plus side is it will probably be a while before they make an application that works in the rover, thus giving all those heroes with Dana 44's and 9 inch-ers to work out all the bugs with it..

I admit it caught my eye, seems like it has potential, I love the simplicity of it.. Wait and see I guess.....JMcD

I think it is the way to go...as long as that solenoid in there is sealed up really well.

I'm going to Email them and see if Rover will be in thier early works

Tractech was working on something like that a couple of years ago. As I recall, they were having problems with locating the solenoid pack on the Rover diffs, since we remove the entire third member instead of opening the rear cover and sliding the diff internals out that way. The solenoid pack would bolt to the diff cover, but that won't work on the Rover diffs.

Eaton makes it, so it must be at least halfway good. As far as I understand, it is a simple selectable, electric locker. It seems to work by energizing an electromagnet which 'turns' a 'ball ramp'which engages the locker. It looks (to my untrained eye) very simple. There is no solenoid or anything like that on the dif, just a wiring harness to a toggle switch. 12 volt, viola!!

Try this link, hope it works. JMcD

These seem quite different, I had a locking dif on my 98 Tacoma TRD, and it had a huge solenoid on the 3rd member, this seems to be like a different setup, although achieving the same goal. I admit I never had my Tacoma apart so I don't know what it looks like, but it was way more than 2 wires running to the dash...

That locker in the 'yota was smoking, very nice unit!! JMcD

I Just heard from Eaton Corp...Here's thier Email:

Slider:
Hello there! How are you? Fine, I hope! We currently do not have
plans to offer an ELocker for the Land Rover Discovery. Although, customer
demand could modify our product introduction plans.

Please keep an eye on our website @ www.traction.eaton.com for product
release updates. Thanks for your interest in our performance differentials
and have a blessed day!

Okay, sounds like a plan! How much people do we have here on the D-web? Probably enough to make this happen. I'm e-mailing them as we speak!

If everyone just cuts this and pastes it into an Email to this guy...([email protected])
I bet something will happen!?

Here's my Email to them earlier:

My land rover club is looking to install Elockers in our Land
Rover Discoveries series I (AKA years 1994 to 1998)
Do you have anything to fit these trucks in the works...
I also know of a few guys that have esentially the same diff's as we do, but
in thier Defenders.

Please let me know and I will be posting all information on the site:
www.discoweb.org
This will then reach literally 1000's of people worldwide...who really off-road
thier Land Rovers...Thanks in advance for any or all info, Slider

sounds like a gret locker.

but does anyone have any idea on how much they would cost?
if the average discoweb visitor would be able to afford them?
just trying to be realistic.

Here's another link. I was checking this out today and then I stumbled on this post. I still wish Tractech would produce their Electric TrueTrac. Then we'd have best of both worlds.
