Does anyone experience the "burning fluids smell"? It's not the smell of burning oil but more of a "hot" engine smell. My smell has come back. The dealer said (last time) that I had a glazed belt or hose (anit-biotics took care of that-oooops, sorry). They fixed the leak and took care of the hose/belt problem. Should my rover just smell?
It is not as aromatic as bacon but...

Mine always feels/smells very hot - I just figured it was a "rover thing"

I had a smell for a year or so that was sort of sweet, like 90 wt. Finally figured that the front output seal of the transfer case was leaking on to the exhaust. It was burning the leaking oil off, and so I never saw a leak. Toasted the t-case.
Other than that, I have the general burning smell as well. I've given up worrying about it.

I would begin by looking to see if you can find what caused the glazed belt in the first place. I lost a lot of steering fluid these past weeks and a burning smell developed, so I need to investigate too. It smells like burnt transmission fluid.

Last year I had a burning smell coming from inside the cab. I found the rheostat switch that controls the dash lights to be the source. It would get too hot to touch if left plugged in so I had the Dealer replace it under warranty and the smell went away.

"my power steering had a small leak that casued fuid to blow back on the block"

I took a look at my leak this morning and it appears as though the main seal at the base of the steering box is on its way out :( The transmission fluid is splashing back to the drivers side cat and creating a nasty burning smell.
