Having just dumped a quart of Amsoil ATF down my shirt trying to fill up the manual transmission on my '95 Disco, I think to myself, there's got to be a better way. I've used the screw on tube with the twist open/close valve, but there's just not enough room -- the Amsoil bottles in particular are too bulky and the tube is either to long or too short, no matter what length it's cut. It takes 20 minutes to put a quart into the tranny and this is not acceptable. Does anyone know of any fool-proof, economical apparatus available for the DIYer to pump fluid into the tranny and/or transfer case from below, like the "pros" do? Thanks, Norm |

Go to the hardware store and find some clear tubing that has the same diameter as the outlet on the open/close valve and fit it on. About 1.5 feet should be enough. That way you can use the open/close valve to keep the fluid in the bottle while you move around below, shove the open end of the tube in, open the valve, and squeeze. That's what I have, and it works really well, and very little mess. In fact I use it for the diff fluid as well as the transmission fluid since I don'thave a funnel. |

Norm, Grand Auto and Kragens, both west cost shops, have cheap pumps, about $5.00, which fit on oil bottles. They are made for use with gear oil but I've used them with atf and motor oil as well. If you don't find one locally, e-mail me and I'll track one down for you out here. Steve |

Check out JC whitney. I bought an electric pistol-type pump from them that connects to your battery. Has 1 inlet tube and 1 outlet tube. Works great, have had it the past several years. If I remember correctly, it was about $20. |
